Certified medical administrative assistants (also called medical office assistants) are critical in keeping healthcare offices running smoothly,
and also play an important role in the patient experience. Tasks include:
- Reviewing and answering practice correspondence
- Operating computer systems to accomplish office tasks
- Answering calls and scheduling appointments
- Greeting patients and updating electronic medical records
- Coordinating operation reports such as time and attendance
This course prepares you to take the Medical Administrative Assistant exam, giving you a nationally recognized credential in the field and includes the voucher for the CMAA exam. The course is offered online with a mandatory weekly meeting with your instructor on Thursdays from 5:30-8:30pm.
MARLENE STUBBLEFIELD has been an employee of San Juan College for the last 16 years, serving as an Adjunct Instructor and lead tutor for A&P I and II and pathophysiology. She has been in the medical field for 50 years, where she developed and taught medical terminology and telemetry technician programs, plus two levels of cardiac programs at San Juan Regional Medical Center. She engaged in extensive professional development (ACLS and PALS certification) and has worked as a Senior Medicolegal Investigator for 30 years with both Federal and State agencies.
